Coaching and counselling help in different ways
Beehyve’s senior coach, Anna says people often ask how ADHD coaching differs from other coaching.
Simply put, coaching focuses on helping you with the how and counselling focuses on helping you address the why.
“Many people with ADHD also deal with other issues that are related or appear with neurodivergence. The clinical term is ‘comorbidities’ – conditions which exist at the same time. So, it’s important to understand each one and also how they work together.
“If you’re dealing with anxiety, grief, trauma or depression, you may get more success from coaching by first addressing these things through counselling.
Anna offers both coaching and counselling, depending on a client’s needs. She has a master's degree in counselling with first-class honours, and a bachelor's degree in psychology and education. She also has extensive training and experience with ADHD. She says the move from counselling to coaching can be seamless.
Anna says, “I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to help my clients build lifelong tools and habits so they can live a fulfilling life.

Annie is an ICF accredited ADHD coach and specialises in helping succeed in their professional lives. She says, “At the age of 49, I received my diagnosis of ADHD. And everything changed.
“I’ve been coaching ambitious business owners, leaders and professionals since 2015, but there was always a missing link for me in my own work. A diagnosis was a moment of relief. Finally, many of my own challenges made sense.”

“Who you really are is the one thing you own and the one thing that makes you different. There’s strength within our differences. How we learn, lead, and succeed is driven by who we are.
Coaching isn't more apps, tools, and tips. All the strategies, podcasts, videos and books are helpful, but they can lead to information overwhelm. ADHD is rarely a problem of not knowing what to do. Rather it's a challenge of "doing what we know".
Coaching (individual or group) is like a learning and practice lab, helping you identify what, when and how you can more often do the things you need to do, especially those that are low stimulation (low dopamine), thereby strengthening your 'doing' capabilities.

Learning to learn
Beehyve Coach Erena says coaching is about helping clients tailor strategies to the way their brains are uniquely wired. Understanding aspects such as dopamine, motivation, previous experiences, and self-concept equips you to help your brain perform at its best.
“At Beehyve, it’s not about off-the-shelf strategies, even supposedly ADHD-friendly ones. It is walking alongside clients, supporting and empowering them over time to build their own capability. We tailor the approach to each client so it’s specific to them.

Beehyve coach Rory also has expertise in coaching people for professional success. Rory is known for their work with Autism and ADHD. For Rory, it’s about setting achievable and progressive goals that allow you to be self-compassionate and flourish.
“We need people to accept and try and understand us, not to cure us. I have hyper-empathy. I know what the costs are of masking. I know of Autistic Burnout. I’ll do everything I can to prevent that from happening to other people.”

ADHD parenting coach Tracey works closely with organisations, schools and agencies to deliver up to date, evidence-based information on ADHD. In fact, she’s regarded as one of the most informed minds on the topic.
Along with the latest research and evidence, Tracey brings a personal perspective on raising ADHD children and being diagnosed herself.
“Many parents discover they have ADHD when their children are diagnosed. Having ADHD themselves can make it extra challenging to deal with their children’s diagnosis and some difficult behaviours. They often feel guilty for not being as organised or routine as other parents, especially when that is recommended for our ADHD children.
